What is Yoga?

A spiritual and physical form of self discipline, which includes breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, its widely practiced for health and relaxation.

“The purpose of yoga is to create strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body,”

Natalie Nevins, a board-certified osteopathic family physician and certified Kundalini Yoga instructor in Hollywood, California.

“The relaxation techniques incorporated in yoga can lessen chronic pain, such as lower back pain, arthritis, headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome,” explains Dr. Nevins. “Yoga can also lower blood pressure and reduce insomnia.”

Physical benefits of yoga include:
-Increased flexibility
-Increased muscle strength and tone
-Improved respiration, energy and vitality
-Maintaining a balanced metabolism
-Weight reduction
-Cardio and circulatory health
-Improved athletic performance
-Protection from injury

Mental Benefits

Aside from the physical benefits, one of the best benefits of yoga is how it helps a person manage stress, which is known to have devastating effects on the body and mind. “Stress can reveal itself in many ways, including back or neck pain, sleeping problems, headaches, drug abuse, and an inability to concentrate,” says Dr. Nevins.

“Yoga can be very effective in developing coping skills and reaching a more positive outlook on life.” Yoga’s incorporation of meditation and breathing can help improve a person’s mental well-being. “Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centers attention; and sharpens concentration,” says Dr. Nevins.

Body- and self-awareness are particularly beneficial, she adds, “because they can help with early detection of physical problems and allow for early preventive action.”

Beginners Welcome

Because there are so many different kinds of yoga practices, it is possible for anyone to start. “Whether you’re a couch potato or a professional athlete, size and fitness levels do not matter because there are modifications for every yoga pose and beginner classes in every style,” says Dr. Nevins. “The idea is to explore your limits, not strive for some pretzel-like perfection. It is a great way to get in tune with your body and your inner self.”

Our Yoga Classes

Kundalini

Kundalini Yoga is the science to unite the finite with Infinity, and it's the art to experience Infinity in the finite."

-Yogi Bhajan

Khundilni Yoga is described as the Ancient mother of all yoga. It focuses on the Mind, Body and Spirit. Through the use of posture, breathing, relaxation and meditation. It is the Full and Complete Yoga package. If you are looking for Relaxation, Peace and Calm, this is it. In Kundalini Yoga we harness the mental, physical, and nervous energies of the body and put them under the domain of the will, which is the instrument of the soul. This technology precisely and consciously combines breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purifies the blood. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul.

Hatha Flow

The word “Hatha” is a combination of two mantras “Ham” and “Tham”; which correspond to solar and lunar energy. A common interpretation of Hatha yoga is the union of pairs of opposites and bringing these two forces in harmony. This system uses a deep understanding of body mechanics, yogic poses and breath to bring the body back to balance. The hatha flow is a rhythmic practice of yogic asanas or poses in link with the breath to stretch and strengthen the muscles, lubricate the joints, condition the body and calm the mind.

Restorative

Restorative yoga practice will create and hold the space for practitioners to regulate their nervous system toward balance. It involves a sequence of only five to six fully supported poses by props like bolsters, blocks, blankets and straps; that offers a deep relaxation, passive stretching and rest in the posture. When the body feels safe and secure, the connective tissues which are storing the emotions and tensions will open up and the joints will be free. Reiki healing touch is included in this session to increase relaxation and regulate the flow of energy in the body. This is not a physically demanding practice and any person with any body type can take advantage from it. It is also very beneficial for people with chronic pain, anxiety and psychosomatic illnesses.

Core

This yoga flow class emphasizes core strength and toning the muscles, that goes beyond abdominal work out. Core strength can be defined as power, stamina, stability and integrity throughout the whole physical body which leads to a healthy posture. This practice includes series of sun-salutations in form of wavelike movement to lubricate the body and maintain heat, along with holding some asanas to build stamina and strength. Breath is a key element of this practice, as well as any other yoga practices, that increases our
endurance limit in movements and difficult asanas.

Therapeutic Flow

The increasing number of scientific studies on yoga practices prove the value of this ancient wisdom as a form of mental and physical therapy. The focus of therapeutic flow class is on healing aspect of yoga through asanas, breath and meditation techniques.
This slow pace practice is totally based on the needs of the participants and can be different from session to session. This approach makes yoga available to everyone and can be especially beneficial to the ones seeking recovery from health issues, chronic pain, restricted mobility and stiffness throughout the body.

Our Teachers

Ranjit

Ranjit is originally from India who then migrated to Africa and settled in Canada in the 70's. She worked as a bookkeeper for 20 years. In 1998 her friend dragged her to a Kundalini class against her will. As destiny would have it she made a 180 degree turn and change her whole life. Such is the effect on many with Kundalini. If you ask her she will tell you words can not explain her love for Kundalini Yoga. It is a passion and love that dwells deep in her heart and soul and touches everything she does. Shes been practicing for over 25 years and teaches at our studio, city community center's and volunteers in her temple.

She has been trained at the 3HO Foundation and is certified as a level I and II teacher.

Ajooni

Ajooni has been attending Hatha and Kundalini Yoga classes for the last 15 years. He fell in love with Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan and that has been the focus of his practice. For him, Kundalini Yoga had been truly life-changing. Yogi Bhajan called it the Yoga of
Awareness and this has certainly resonated with Ajooni. The practitioner finds an inner strength that had never been previously awakened. Ajooni took the Kundalini Teacher Training program at Bliss 5 years ago, when it was led by Gurutej Kaur from Los Angeles. As a Kundalini Research Institute registered Kundalini Yoga Teacher, Ajooni has been teaching since the completion of his training.
Ajooni is a multi-lingual former teacher and school principal. He has also traveled extensively, including several trips to India.
Ajooni teaches with compassion and sensitivity and provides sets that challenge the participant physically and mentally and yet are accessible to anyone regardless of physical abilities. Often we limit ourselves and don’t recognize our true potential.
Ajooni has a passion for Kundalini Yoga and is ready to share this dynamic, energizing life-changing technology.

Nassi

Nassi is a certified Yoga therapist and Reiki practitioner who sees yoga as a science and wisdom of life. She finished her 500hrs Yoga Therapy certification at 2018.
